Normally, I never miss a birthday-at least, I always have a card prepared. Now I had the idea for this card, but never finished it in time for my dad. I think because I was really not sure what to get him this year. He is the type who is happy with whatever, and not materialistic at all. He loves having us, and the grandkids around. A very social and personable guy-everyone knows my dad. Or so it seems, we can not go anywhere without him knowing someone. And if he does not know you, he'll be sure to know you by the end of a gathering. He is a nature lover and bird watcher. I know exactly where my little guy gets these qualities from!!
Our recent trip to Scotland, provided me with the perfect gift. My aunt's house is in Pitmeddin, the countryside of Aberdeen. About a five minute walk behind her house is a great big forest. When we went last year, my son lived there-we could have camped out seriously!! So this year, Riley was eager to show grandpa this great place. My dad was in awe! And honestly, it is hard to describe. The weather was great-windy, but a perfect blue sky, crisp day in Scottish country. Leaves crunching, amazing color- just breathtaking. At, what my son calls the funny tree, I took this photo of my dad with his three grandkids. I knew that moment needed to be preserved. At home, I developed it and framed it in a wood 'outdoorsy' frame. The card was the perfect finish.
